Theme settings

As of my last update in September 2021, Shopify provides a range of theme settings that allow merchants to customize the appearance and functionality of their online stores without directly editing the theme code. These settings help store owners make changes and adjustments to their store’s design and behavior easily, even if they have little or no coding knowledge.

The Theme Settings typically include the following options:

  • General settings: These settings allow you to set up basic elements such as store logo, favicon, store name, and other essential store information.
  • Typography: This section enables you to customize the fonts used throughout your store, including headings, body text, and other elements.
  • Colors: Here, you can specify the colors for various elements like text, links, buttons, backgrounds, and more to match your brand identity.
  • Header: This section lets you control the appearance and content of the store’s header, including logo placement, navigation menu, and header background.
  • Footer: Similar to the header settings, this area lets you customize the footer content, layout, and colors.
  • Homepage: You can configure the layout, content, and sections displayed on your store’s homepage, such as featured products, collections, banners, and promotional sections.
  • Product page: These settings allow you to control how product pages are displayed, including product images, product description, related products, and more.
  • Collection page: This section allows you to customize how collections and their products are showcased, including the layout, sorting options, and filtering.
  • Cart page: Here, you can adjust the design and content of the shopping cart page to ensure it matches your store’s overall look and feel.
  • Blog page: If your store has a blog section, these settings let you modify the appearance and layout of your blog posts.
  • Social media integration: Some themes allow you to add social media links and integrate social sharing buttons on product pages or blog posts.
  • Custom CSS/JS: More advanced users or developers might have the option to add custom CSS or JavaScript to further customize the theme beyond the available settings.

Remember that theme settings can vary depending on the specific theme you are using. Shopify offers a wide variety of themes, both free and premium, and each may have different customization options available. When choosing a theme, make sure it meets your requirements and offers the level of flexibility you need for your online store.
